Bayani Fernando: The Next President?

To borrow Prof. Alex Magno’s words, ‘everyone and his cousin’ is running for the 2010 presidential election.

First to announce their candidacies, were the three billionaire candidates namely Senate president Manny Villar, Sen. Mar Roxas and former Pres. Joseph ‘Erap’ Estrada – elephants, Miriam calls them, in reference to their enormous wealth as compared to the relatively ‘poorer’ candidates, which she calls as the ants.

Roxas proclaimed his candidacy in a grand style immediately after the LP’s national executive council elected him as president of the Liberal Party (LP) more than six weeks ago, in a meeting at the Club Filipino in Greenhills, San Juan. Later developments however showed that Sen. Francis ‘Kiko’ Pangilinan might challenge Roxas’ nomination.

Nacionalista Party (NP) president Manny Villar was the logical choice as his party’s standard-bearer due to his stature in the Senate and in the party; although his party mate Sen. Richard ‘Dick’ Gordon could still pose a challenge to his candidacy.

The heated rivalry between the two heavyweights have subsided during the holiday season, but the other heavyweight (no pun intended), Erap continued with his campaign offensive without any let-up, even with the legality of his running again still in question. Erap is everywhere nowadays – in the slums of Metro Manila or in the rice fields of Nueva Ecija, on the front page of the Philippine Daily Inquirer or in the studios of ANC.

Then the ‘ants’ came.

Sen. Panfilo Lacson, branded as the ‘spoiler’ of a sure victory for the opposition in the 2004 presidential election, had no qualms in expressing his intention to run again. He never admitted in playing the spoiler’s role by taking away votes from the late Fernando Poe, Jr.

Sen. Loren Legarda meanwhile has not yet categorically stated her intentions to run, but her body language says otherwise. According to the grapevine, Legarda got irritated and sulked in a corner when the upstart Sen. Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero, asked her who would be president between the two of them, if ever they decide to run together.

The opposition says Vice President Noli de Castro may be the best bet for the administration to go against its crop of strong presidential contenders, but is still confident that de Castro will be no match to any of them.

Some sectors are floating the name of Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, who certainly is a fine young man and appears to be competent enough. He handled himself very well under pressure against antagonistic anchors in an ANC interview during the Manila Peninsula Siege-Press Freedom brouhaha. His biggest asset, though others say liability, would be his uncle, Eduardo ‘Danding’ Cojuangco, Jr.

One man considers himself as a ‘dark horse’ – Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay, who is popular in the metro, but is unknown in the provinces. A joke is circulating in the emails lately. It says, “If America is ready for a Black president, then why not the Philippines? Vote for Binay!"

And then there is BF – Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Bayani Fernando. In an ABS-CBN interview, a reporter referred to Fernando as the ‘future president’, to which he quickly replied, “not future president, but the next president”.

Fernando may be unpopular among Metro Manila’s working class, but he is gaining reputation throughout the country as a no-nonsense and firm leader. Marikina and Metro Manila as a whole had tasted a BF leadership for so long now. Maybe the proper time has come for the whole country to experience the same. With proper support and organization, he could well be the true dark horse of the 2010 presidential derby.

2008 has just started and yet political parties or politicians themselves are already busy positioning themselves for the 2010 presidential elections...some things perhaps are always bound to happen.

I will vote BF if he ever runs for president. But I don't think he will win if the Filipinos are not yet ready for a change.

"As a leader, I cannot cry with the poor for if my eyes are blinded by tears, who will lead them out of poverty? The people would eventually realize that what we are doing is for everybody, especially the poor. It is what the people of Marikina realized when we implemented similar measures. They are now more politically matured because they are now reaping the good effects of discipline." Bayani Fernando

WITH THIS STATEMENT, WE COULD SEE THAT BAYANI FERNANDO IS A PRO - POOR LEADER. He should be the next president.

We are snowballing the BF4P Crusade. We are looking for "Teritorial Campaign Coordinators". Just name the territory where you would like to be the campaign coordinator of BF4P Crusade and we will formally appoint you. Just email me at totidulay@yahoo.com. Regards to everyone. hi Pareng Kevin.

I truly believed that BF will be the next president of the Philippines. He have accompolished some many things and as always lead the way in term of implementing its policies.
A BF and Gordon team will be a sure bet for 2010.
BF/Gordon....Firm leaders!!!!

A Bayani-Gordon tandem would be a tandem of good managers, just what our country needs for it to transform into a first-world economy.

Only apprehension is that Gordon is too emotional and hot headed sometimes.

bayani fernando is the next president as long as he is not handled by the trapos. if anybody is excited about bayani a grass root activity should start right now in manila and all over the world. a contribution of 1$ from everybody should propel his candidacy. gordon or teodoro is good.

Gilbert Teodoro is a fine and competent young man, but his uncle Danding Cojuangco's reputation may affect his chances.

Lakas - CMD - KAMPI will get Noli as their presidential candidate because Number 1 sya sa survey. Then, they will coalesce with NP and get Manny Villar as VP. Ok din naman kay Villar to kasi, sure winner sya sa VP..with the machinery of LAKAS - CMD - KAMPI and NP. Tsaka, in our history, VP is a sure fire jumping board for presidency as done by Erap, GMA and, now Noli. Villar knows that as a conservative businessman.

BF will probably go back to Marikina to run for Mayor againsts Rep. Del de Guzman because her adopted daughter Tala is still too young, barely teens, and they failed to train her even just for councilor last elections. Its a Fernando versus De Guzman fight once again in Marikina. The last fight of Osmundo de Guzman and Gil Fernando, the de Guzman won and Gil Fernando was never able to come back after that. Its always the de Guzman who silence the Fernando in Marikina. MCF will probably go back running the BF metals. Pag nakuha na ng de Guzman ulit ang Marikina, mananahimik na ang Fernando.Shoe industry will be alive again.

If BF is afraid to fight the De Guzmans, then , he has to be good to Noli to be reappointed as MMDA chairman again...so, we have six more years of those tarpaulins until BF reach the age of 70's in 2016.

To be pragmatic about it, BF doesn’t need to be a president to effect the change that our dear country is in dire need. But if he does becomes a president, so much the better.

His chances of being a president is slim. And that’s not because of any lack of qualifications but because of the systemic flaw in our election process and the people running it. It would take a massive overhaul in that system and in the mentality of the electorate to get a very prepared, honest and competent leader to get elected such as BF.

Better for BF to be a VP. Take a cabinet position and run an umbrella committe that will drive the DILG, DPWH and DOT towards “BUENAS FILIPINAS” - a macro version of his “Metro Gwapo”. He can then be a catalyst of change and an inspiration to the people that if they are more intelligent in choosing the best leaders in our country, there is much hope awaiting in the horizon for us.

I hope this idea snowballs...Bayani Fernando(MMDA
Chairman) & Jesse Rebredo(Naga Mayor) tandem in 2010! Both are transformational leaders and role models who can empower people and enable them to transform their communities through discipline...This is what the Philippines needs!

Bayani Fernando- Gordon tandem or Jaime Zobel de Ayala-Bayani Fernando tandem perfect match for Malacanang!!!!!

Bayani Fernando is the man. If we want discipline and good governance Bayani is the best man to do the job.

I would be a volunteer as soon as Bayani formally declares his candidacy.

His participation in GMA 7's Celebrity Duets (every Saturday), might as well provide my idol with more nationwide exposure. So boto sana natin sya every week.

Cheers!

Bayani will be my next president!

As for Noli and ABS CBN, I think they're biased... Just look at the news they post in their website. Shameless endorsements for Noli.

All other politicians.. they only play the "popular side" game. Making easy decisions. Look at Chiz E.

Can't believe that guy (CHIZ)! I had high hopes but it turns out to be a disappointment. or somewhat sort of. Chiz is becoming more irrelevant now. STEP UP DUDE! Young people like us look at YOU!

Bayani Fernando, the man I used to dislike. His projects are weird at first glance and I objected to them. As time went by however, his odd looking projects (as cheap as they look) are really beginning have very direct effect on me every time I go to the northern side of the Metro. In EDSA we have a traffic improvement of 50%. I used to hate his u - turns but I see how they can be economical, short term solutions until money for flyovers/underpasses is available. U - turns can create cut down time by blocking of the intersection and allowing traffic to free-flow in a rotanda manner, thru without the need of stop lights which hold down traffic in lines for long. I am beginning to see the logic in that guy. I am happy he is not afraid to tear down illegal settlements(Squatter) who occupies lands that they do not legally wn and returning them to the proper persons without compensating the squatters (i am not cruel to them but they SHOULD NOT be compensated if they're not the legal property owners otherwise thats stealing).

Bayani Fernando for President!

To all of you, let's tell others about the great leadership skills of Bayani Fernando. Let's do our part to make this guy the president of our beloved nation.Let us not sit down and do nothing. Let's be pro active and form pro - Bayani groups. Let's CRUSADE FOR BAYANI!

PARA SA AKING INANG BAYANG MAHAL HANGGANG SA KAMATAYAN!
Bayani Fernando, ang tunay na Bayani.

The only way he can convince us (as vendors), is for him to show remorse. Not just as ploy to gain mileage, but as a way to redeem his soul.

Gusto ko rin si Loren. Ayaw ko kay Chiz. Parang masyadong bata na ewan eh. At lalong ayaw ko kay ED PANLILIO!
